In my last Stake Priesthood leadership meeting, a speaker quoted a (former) Utah football player. I heard enough groans to fuel a truckload of Y whining. I have never felt the spirit so strong.

On Superbowl Sunday my ward got out 20 minutes before the game was supposed to start. A member of the Stake Presidency was in attendance and our Elders Quorum President at the end of the lesson asked if he wanted to say a few words. The Stake Presidency member replied, “I think that I’d get lynched if I started rambling. Anyway, go home and watch the Super Bowl. The Book of Mormon teaches that we have covenanted to succor those that stand in need of succoring (At the waters of Mormon), and since Austin Collie is a member we should watch the game to keep the covenants of the church…

Our stake priesthood meeting on Sunday was about the three boys who carried the Martin handcart saints over the river and died thereafter.

Of course, they didn’t carry everyone over the river, there were more than three, and they lived long and productive lives. Sigh.
