Banned by BYU
Look at the picture you below. Zoom in, if you have to. Do you know what it means?

It means that BYU has blocked this website–www.deadseriously.net. Some friends of mine at BYU (faculty no less!) tried to look at my site yesterday morning, and discovered that I have been banned. Folks–I have honestly never been so proud of anything in my entire life. I think I’d be okay with dying now. There’s nowhere to go from here but down.
While this was probably initially due to my use of a redirecting site TinyURL.com from my Facebook profile, apparently the destination site was blocked as well, so going directly to my blog from campus was not an option either.
The irony is that I haven’t really made fun of BYU for some time now–BYU fans are almost always unbearable to be around, but considerably less so after Utah’s football season. Figures.

I guess that I should take you out of my google reader now. (I wonder if your colleagues at BYU with questionable internet proclivities would be able to get the feed to your blog through Google reader. Hmm.)
All righteous, temple-worthy Mormons must immediately stop reading my posts. It’s the only solution.
oh wow; I don’t think even *my* blog has been banned by BYU (but then again, I don’t have any insiders to let me know).
And you know, my blog is actually part of the Dark Side of the Moon.
Andrew–
Yeah, you’re evil like that. I actually don’t dare link you on my blog for fear that innocent souls will be lost.
Actually, I thought I did have you linked–it must have fallen through when I changed templates and redid everything.
The way I see it, you now have to do something really outrageous to truly deserve the ban. You know, like put up a video of yourself drinking a caffeinated beverage.
You know, like put up a video of yourself drinking a caffeinated beverage.
What doth it profit a man to gain his wildest dream of being blacklisted by BYU, if he loses his own soul?
Don’t try taking the credit for this ban, when we both know who the real threat is.
Try taking my name off your Blogroll. I’m sure you’ll get your BYU recommend back in no time.
Sorry, but “Dan Weston” just sounds too benign to set off any alarms in Provo. Besides, mentioning in your sidebar that you speak multiple languages just makes you look like a returned missionary.
Okay…I’m in a whole ‘nother generation (or two) away from BYU students and even I am wondering….whuuuuutt?? I’ve following you for a short while but I haven’t found anything that has warranted banning. Maybe I’d better start reading from the start. Crazy! People simply cannot laugh at themselves.
Lucy–
I think the most anti-BYU posts on here were The Baby Blessing Post (in the sidebar) and one about the USU-BYU football game. However, both were very, very mild.
Like I hinted in the post, I seriously doubt that I was banned because of content–the ban was because of the anonymous redirector site TinyURL.com. But I still feel proud.
I am so proud to say I know you. Wow.
I’ll check tomorrow from BYU-I and return and report.
Christina–
Thank you, thank you.
Dallin–
Excellent idea. I’d like to think that the Scott Bosworth virus has spread through the entire Church Educational System.
eh? I’m posting this from BYU (Helaman Halls) right now. That banned site in the screenshot is from facebook.
What? I confused Facebook for my blog? Oh no! Thanks for catching that for me!
That was the only screenshot that my friend at BYU took, so that’s what I used. The screenshot shows what popped up when the user clicked on a link from my Facebook profile to my blog.
I have also been informed that the Ban is no longer in place on my site in general. All good things come to an end.
And what are you doing reading blogs in the first place? I thought that all good BYU students engaged in a 24/7 campaign to prove that they’re smarter than their fellow students. Seriously, Royce, you’re throwing my whole world view out of whack here.
It’s strange, your blog is banned in my household too.
“What? I confused Facebook for my blog? Oh no! Thanks for catching that for me!
”
Well, in the screenshot it says “You cannot access the following Web address:” and lists a page from facebook. Believe me, as a StumbleUpon user I’ve become very familiar with that page… you could do what I do and add a little humor to it by imaging a way-too-polite flight attendant reading it…
“And what are you doing reading blogs in the first place? I thought that all good BYU students engaged in a 24/7 campaign to prove that they’re smarter than their fellow students.”
Haha, I’ve realized that this is impossible a while ago. :p
UPDATE!
I was incorrect about the BYU ban being lifted–apparently the powers that be in Cougarland have determined that I’m still not appropriate.
However, my snoops at BYU-Idaho inform me that standards are much different there, and my blog is still visible.
